Week of October 19, 2026 | John 11:25–26

The Scripture

“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?’”

John 11:25–26, ESV

Jesus said this to Martha while her brother was still in the tomb. Four days gone. The funeral was over, and everyone had decided the story was finished. Then Jesus asked her a question: “Do you believe this?”

Apply it to life

Most of us carry something that feels finished. Maybe it’s a job you dread walking into on Monday. Maybe it’s grief that still shows up in the middle of the grocery store. Maybe it’s a kid who stopped calling, a recovery that keeps slipping, or a prayer you’ve prayed so long you’ve quietly stopped expecting an answer.

Jesus doesn’t ask Martha to pretend it doesn’t hurt. He wept with her. But He also doesn’t let the grave have the last word, because He is the last word. The same Jesus who called Lazarus out is with you in what you’re facing this week, and His love for you hasn’t changed with your circumstances.

One practice for this week: when something in your day feels dead or done, say His words quietly to yourself, “I am the resurrection and the life.” Then take the next small step like it’s true. Because it is.

A prayer for this week

Lord Jesus, You are the resurrection and the life. You see the places in me that feel finished: the worry, the grief, the habits, the hopes I’ve buried. I believe; help my unbelief. Meet me in the middle of this week, and breathe life where I only see endings. Let my life point people to You. In Your name, amen.
